Opportunities in a Time of Crisis: the Role of the Family

Opportunities in a Time of Crisis: the Role of the Family

Oct 24-27, 2013
Istanbul, Turkey

The 8th Congress of the European Family Therapy Association (EFTA) took place on the 24th-27th October 2013 at the Istanbul Lufti Kirdar Convention and Exhibition Center, Turkey, which I attended along with seven CYSOFT colleagues. The venue is a huge modern complex of studios, lecture rooms, amphitheatres and the main Anadolu auditorium which seats 1500 people. For readers who enjoy statistics there were about 900 participants, and 480 presentations.

Vice-President of CySoFT, Dina Mousteri, was one of three speakers with the theme “Training in Family Therapy and Systemic Practice in Present Conditions” her presentation title was “Brief Family Therapy in a time of crisis: The Brief Systemic Dialogical model in Therapy, Training and Supervision”. The lecture room was packed and her presentation was very well received.

We were listening to eight different presentations a day but my personal highlights were Professor Jaakko Seikkula ‘Family Therapy as Embodied Dance of Therapists and Family’ and on a different day ‘Open Dialogues: New Paradigms in Mental Health Work for Psychotic and other severe problems’. All of the presentations are available to read on the congress website www.efta2013.org.
